Marmaris
Marmaris, the touristic district of Muğla, one of the touristic cities of our country, is located in the south of the Aegean Region. Neighboring districts of Marmaris include Datça, Köyceğiz and Ula. You can go to Rhodes Island from Marmaris in an hour. The district has a surface area of 866 km2 and 10 m. It has sea altitude.
If we look at the history of the Kaleiçi district of Marmaris, it is said that there are two residential areas: inside the Kale and outside the Kale. It is mentioned in some sources that in ancient times, that is, after the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent, families ranging in number from 25 to 30 lived in the Kaleiçi region. Outside the castle, it can be seen that it has reached its current state as the population started to increase after the wars ended and peace reigned. It is observed that the buildings are small because the inner and outer areas of the castle are rocky.
Historical houses in Marmaris are mostly built with one storey. It is said that in the past, the houses inside the castle had wooden and double-winged doors. Kaleiçi is a place where natural beauties abound, accompanied by ivy flowers and vines that start from the entrance of the castle, and the beauty of the historical houses that can be reached via stone stairs is indisputable.
The part within the borders of this region, where there are narrow roads, stone houses and colorful ivy flowers to reach Marmaris Castle, is called ‘Tepe District’. It is also called the surroundings of the castle. In the sources of the tourist tours of the guides, it is referred to as ‘Old Town’. It is observed that the castle’s roads are narrow and have stairs and are not suitable for vehicle entry or exit. In this area, there are bars, cafes, restaurants and hostels for accommodation.
